Modern Prime Set

NiSi / V-35 Project

NiSi Athena OM V-35 Primes

5 primes 14 – 85mm T1.9 – T2.4 PL

Retuned to capture the magic of Olympus OM Zuiko lenses in a brand-new full-frame cinema package.

The Athenas produce a gentle, flattering image: contrast is deliberately dialled back, giving a slight pastel richness to colours and preventing harshness. They flare in a warm, golden way, not bluish sci-fi but amber-hued wraps that drift across the frame. Sharpness is excellent edge-to-edge yet never clinical. “Sharp but not clinically sharp,” resolving detail without the image feeling surgical. Skin tones look particularly lovely.

Talking points

Why DPs pick this set

  1. V-35 Project tuning gives modern NiSi glass the warmth and character of 1970s Olympus OM Zuikos

  2. Among the smallest, lightest full-frame cine primes available.

    Ideal for gimbals and drones

  3. Beautiful flare-bloom against light, like built-in diffusion, but with contrast retained in normal scenes

  4. Sharp enough to rival Master Primes but with a forgiving contrast curve that’s kind to faces

Heritage

  1. Origin

NiSi (China) ventured into cinema lenses in 2018 with the F3 primes, after years as a filtration brand. The original NiSi Athena Prime line, launched at NAB 2023, gave them a modern full-frame cinema lens family: clean, sharp, and clinical. The OM V-35 Project is a follow-on collaboration with V-35 Project to retune those modern primes to emulate Olympus OM Zuiko vintage glass from the 1970s.

  2. Filmography

Adopted by DPs wanting modern build quality with vintage character, particularly attractive to gimbal, drone, and run-and-gun workflows where weight matters as much as look.

  3. Build

Modern manufacture, not rehouse. V-35 Project tuning dials contrast lower, warms the flares to amber, and creams the bokeh. The result is a new-production vintage lens: modern-built, vintage-inspired. Among the smallest, lightest full-frame cine primes available. Sharp enough to rival Master Primes but with a forgiving contrast curve that’s kind to faces.
