Purpose-built large-format primes from Tribe7, hand-built in Bavaria.
Lens design treated like audio synthesis: sharpness, contrast, roll-off, halation, flare all tunable at manufacture. The T-Tuned base uses single-coated optics for vintage roll-off and vibrant flaring: what Tribe7 calls “musical fidelity.” SKIN conversion kits swap front and rear elements for non-radioactive amber coatings: Thorium-era glass channelled. SKIN 2000 (~2000K) is red for warm nostalgia. SKIN 3000 (~3000K) is amber for stronger golden flares. Reversible: three personalities.

Origin
Designed and hand-built by Tribe7 in Bavaria, Germany. Co-founded by Bradford Young ASC and lens designer Neil Fanthom. Blackwing7 primes treat lens design as an extension of audio synthesis: controlled distortion shaped like EQ curves across the optical spectrum. The T-Tuned variant draws on single-coated optics from the mid-20th century for its signature flare and halation. SKIN conversion kits were introduced later, inspired by Thorium-era optics: the amber hue that radioactive decay slowly imparted on vintage glass, recreated safely through modern coating formulations. Productions include Anima (Paul Thomas Anderson / Darius Khondji), Don’t Worry Darling (Matty Libatique), Obi-Wan Kenobi (Chung-hoon Chung), and Nike: Carry Me (Janusz Kaminski).
