What to look for

  1. Out-of-focus highlights

    Defocused speculars render as round, evenly filled discs with soft edges and no hard rim. See the window reflections in 01 and the table lamp in 06.

  2. Backgrounds

    Out-of-focus backgrounds stay smooth with no double edges, so a busy room doesn't get nervous behind the talent.

  3. Distortion and fringing

    Tilted straight up at the towers, the verticals converge with the tilt but don't bow, and there's no visible colour fringing where the building edges meet bright sky.
