These frames are graded, so the colour comes partly from the grade and partly from the lens. The focus fall-off and the way out-of-focus areas render come from the lens.

What to look for

  1. Skin

    Holds wrinkle and eyebrow detail where focus sits. Look at the brow hairs and forehead creases in 02, and the forehead lines and beard in 04.

  2. Backgrounds

    Out-of-focus backgrounds go soft with single edges and no busy outlines. Look at the glassware in the cabinet behind 04 and the window bars behind 05.
