Fujinon Premista 28-100mm
Fujinon
Fujinon
28 – 100mm zoom T2.9 PL
The first Premista, and still the heart of the system.
The 28-100mm covers the focal range where most narrative cinematography happens, replacing up to six primes on a large-format sensor at a constant T2.9. Optical performance is consistent edge-to-edge across the entire zoom range, with natural bokeh from the 13-blade iris and accurate colour that matches high-end large-format primes. At 3.8kg, it’s compact enough for handheld work while delivering the image quality expected on major features and prestige television.
Character profile
Clean. Standard. Prime-rivalling resolution.
Five axes plotting how this set behaves wide-open vs a neutral modern reference. Larger area = more pronounced trait.
Talking points
3.6× ratio covers 28–100mm: the widest standard zoom range in a large-format cinema lens
Constant T2.9 with no ramping: smooth iris transitions throughout the entire zoom range
Optical quality rivals dedicated primes, Fujinon’s aspherical elements maintain resolution to the edges
Paired with the 80-250mm, covers 28–250mm with just two lenses sharing identical ergonomics

Origin
The Premista 28-100mm was the first lens in the series, announced alongside the 80-250mm as Fujinon’s entry into the large-format cinema market. FUJIFILM’s optical manufacturing heritage spans decades (from motion picture film stock to broadcast zoom lenses) and the Premista represents their most ambitious cinema optics project to date. The 28-100mm quickly became a rental-house staple for large-format productions, offering a practical alternative to carrying multiple heavy prime lenses while maintaining top-tier image quality.
