What to look for

  1. Flare

    Into the sun you get a full rainbow ring plus magenta and violet ghosts, and veiling glare lifts the blacks around the source. Flag the lens if you want it clean.

  2. Backgrounds and skin

    Out-of-focus foliage keeps some texture instead of melting away, and skin holds pore detail without looking clinical.

  3. Backlight

    Wide into a hazy backlight, the highlights bloom and the blacks lift, but the shadow side of the grass keeps its detail instead of crushing.
