These frames are graded, so the colour comes partly from the grade and partly from the lens. The focus fall-off and the way out-of-focus areas render come from the lens.

What to look for

  1. Out-of-focus foreground

    With focus on the set, the studio cameras across the foreground go soft with single edges and no double outlines. The right camera's hood against the white panel wall is the cleanest place to see it.

  2. Backgrounds

    Through the hatch, the chairs stay single-edged against the lit wall, and the small light hanging behind goes to an evenly filled disc with no bright rim.

  3. Straight lines

    Looking down the temple hall, the leadlight across the top of frame stays straight, with no barrel bowing.
