Angénieux EZ-2

Super 35 · PL Mount

15 – 40mm T2 PL

A wide zoom that thinks it’s a prime.

Super 35 native: 15–40mm constant T2, prime-lens speed in a compact zoom. Swap the rear group and it covers 22–60mm T3 on Full Frame and VistaVision. Internal focus and zoom keep barrel length constant, 114mm front matches the Optimo series for shared matte boxes. No ramping, negligible breathing, Angénieux color across the Optimo and EZ families.

Talking points

Why DPs pick this set

  1. Constant T2 across the range: fastest wide zoom at this price

  2. IRO rear optics convert the lens between S35 and FF/VV: a clean-bench swap with a screwdriver and hex key, not an on-set change

  3. Under 2.1kg with zero ramping: ideal for Steadicam, gimbal, and handheld

Heritage

  1. Origin

Designed by Angénieux at Saint-Héand, France, and manufactured with a Japanese production partner. The Type EZ series bridges the gap between still photography zooms and the Optimo cinema series, bringing Angénieux optical DNA to a more accessible price point. The EZ-2 launched alongside the EZ-1. Both share the innovative IRO (Interchangeable Rear Optics) system that converts a single lens between S35 and Full Frame formats. Colorimetry matches the Optimo and Optimo Style series. Built with in-lens thermal compensation to maintain calibration across temperature changes from −20°C to +45°C.
